Recent data reveals that in the first four months of 2024, Qingdao Customs issued 40,000 certificates of origin under the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), related to exports valued at a total of 8.36 billion yuan. This represents year-on-year increases of 19.9% in the number of certificates issued and 16% in export value, making Qingdao Customs the top certification agency in the country. Since the RCEP came into effect, Qingdao Customs has issued a total of 235,000 RCEP certificates, facilitating exports worth 54.08 billion yuan and enabling companies to benefit from nearly 600 million yuan in tariff reductions from other RCEP member countries.
Japan has begun implementing its fourth round of tariff reductions under the RCEP since April 1. Data shows that Qingdao Customs issued over 10,000 RCEP certificates of origin in April for exports to Japan, amounting to an export value of 2 billion yuan. This marks year-on-year increases of 33.9% in the number of certificates issued and 18.5% in export value. Compared to Q1 2024, the increases in the number of certificates issued and the export value to Japan have surged by 23 and 17 percentage points respectively.
In the first four months of this year, Qingdao Customs saw a significant increase in the issuance of RCEP certificates of origin for exports to ASEAN and Australia. The number of certificates issued and the value of exports benefiting from these certificates grew by 2.7 times and 3.2 times respectively in comparison to the same period last year while the proportion of export value benefiting from RCEP tariff reductions to Australia and ASEAN rose from 2.8% last year to 9.8%.
