The 62-day summer rail travel season concluded on August 31. The Qingdao Railway Station, under the Jinan Bureau of China State Railway Group, recorded 8.485 million passenger departures from July 1 to August 31, averaging 137,000 per day—a 6.6% increase from last year and the highest summer figure in the station's history. Daily passenger volume exceeded 150,000 on ten occasions during the season, peaking on August 18 with 176,000 travelers to set a new single-day summer record.
This summer, overlapping flows of tourists, students, and family visitors drove sustained peaks in passenger traffic. Most travelers within Shandong Province headed to Jinan, Weifang, Heze, Linyi, and Yantai, while interprovincial journeys were concentrated toward major hubs such as Beijing, Shijiazhuang, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, and Xi'an. To manage the surge, Qingdao Railway Station expanded capacity by adding 10.5 pairs of trains to destinations—including Beijing, Taiyuan, Heze, Jinan, and Weihai—to strengthen the rail network and improve travel convenience along key routes.
Confronted with sustained high passenger volumes, Qingdao Railway Station introduced a series of measures to optimize service and safety. Real-time monitoring of passenger flows enabled precise daily capacity adjustments under a "one-day, one-schedule" model with additional security checkpoints and staffing significantly improved to enhance entry efficiency. At Qingdao North Station, the expansion of "transfer without repeated security checks" model with the metro ensured seamless high-speed rail–subway connections to greatly reduce transfer times, in addition to organizing volunteer teams of Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) members to provide guidance at entrances, waiting halls, and service counters and ensure safe, comfortable, and orderly travel for passengers.
Capitalizing on the Qingdao International Beer Festival, Qingdao Railway Station most notably partnered with the Shinan District Bureau of Culture and Tourism to launch a themed "Beer Festival + Concert" cultural tourism train. Under the banner "Savor the joy of beer, revel in the rhythm of music," the initiative blended beer culture, live performances, and rail travel to expanding service scenarios based on cultural tourism and convenient transport to showcase Qingdao's distinctive cultural appeal to travelers.
