The Administrative Committee of the Qingdao National High-tech Industrial Development Zone (also known as the Qingdao Hi-tech Zone) has recently signed a cooperation agreement with Runxin Medical Technology (Qingdao) Co., Ltd. to develop a cardiac surgery medical device manufacturing base. The project, with a total investment of 130 million yuan, will be built by Runxin Medical and will integrate research and development, production, and sales within the zone.
The Hi-Tech Zone’s investment promotion authority indicates that the project is jointly backed by investors including Weigao Songyuan Fund Management and Chongqing Win-tech Industrial Co., Ltd., consolidating the collective resources from Shandong Weigaotuowei Medical Equipment Co., Ltd. and Shenzhen Huachang Medical Innovation Co., Ltd. to form a collaborative model that combines leading enterprises, specialized funds, and industry teams through the support of established R&D capabilities and distribution networks.
The project’s product portfolio includes core cardiac surgery consumables and equipment such as membrane oxygenators, extracorporeal circulation tubing, and vascular grafts. Its large-diameter artificial grafts offer technical advantages in key areas including leak resistance and coating degradation cycles while its intra-aortic balloon pump system provides a new solution for the treatment of heart failure. Once operational, the project is expected to accelerate the localization of cardiac surgery consumables and devices, attract upstream and downstream industry players to the Qingdao Hi-tech Zone, while simultaneously drive the development of a high-end, clustered medical device industry in the region.
With recognition of how cardiac surgery devices represent a high-barrier, high-value segment of the medical technology sector that requires cross-disciplinary expertise in biomaterials, precision manufacturing, and clinical medicine, the demand for advanced devices continues to grow, in light of China’s large cardiovascular patient population and the steady rise in surgical volumes and this makes this industry a key high ground that domestic medical device companies aspire to secure.
