Overview of Qingdao

Qingdao, located in Shandong Province, China, and adjacent to the Yellow Sea (Pacific Ocean), was established in 1891. It covers a land area of 11,293 square kilometers and is administratively divided into seven districts: Shinan, Shibei, Laoshan, Licang, Qingdao West Coast New Area (Huangdao), Chengyang, and Jimo, as well as three county-level cities: Jiaozhou, Pingdu, and Laixi. As of December 2022, Qingdao has a permanent population of 10.3421 million, with 7.4061 million residing in urban areas.It is one of China's mega-cities, as well as one of the 15 sub-provincial cities and five separately planned cities in China.

Qingdao is an important economic center in China and the economic hub of Shandong Province.Since 2000, its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has consistently ranked third among northern Chinese cities.Qingdao is also a national pioneer in modern marine industry development, a major hub for international shipping in Northeast Asia, and a key node city in the New Eurasia Land Bridge economic corridor of the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as a strategic point for maritime cooperation.

As an important city for tourism, international conferences and events, Qingdao welcomed 110 million domestic and international visitors in 2023 from January to October. It was the venue for the sailing events of the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the host city for the 2018 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. In recent years, Qingdao has hosted several significant international conferences,including the Qingdao Multinationals Summit(2019,2021,2022,2023), Boao Forum for Asia Global Health Forum(2019,2021), China-Europe Business Leaders Qingdao Forum(2019-2023),World Industrial Internet Conference(2018-2022)etc.
